Workshop Descriptions

E-Rate Overview
July 26, 2005, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

This session is for people new to the E-Rate funding process.  In this session, you will learn the basics on:

Once you have completed this sessions, you will be ready to attend the other Webinars in the series.

E-Rate Funding for Construction Projects
August 18, 2005,  1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

This workshop describes how to obtain E-Rate funding for construction projects.  Only specific portions of a project are eligible, many schools and libraries are unlikely to receive funding, and there are difficulties in obtaining the funding.  For some schools and libraries, however, the E-Rate can be a valuable funding source for renovations and new construction.

Construction Costs Covered by E-Rate: Only construction costs related to technology are eligible for E-Rate funding.  In addition to an overview of the services and equipment eligible for funding, we will discuss which common elements of a construction project are eligible.

Likelihood of Funding: Districts with a high percentage of low-income students are certain to receive funding.  As the percentage of low-income students drops, the likelihood of funding drops.  We will talk about which districts can expect funding, and which should not count on it.

Obstacles to Funding: There are difficulties in trying to obtain E-Rate funding for construction projects.  We will describe the issues most commonly encountered.

Note:  If your district has fewer than 20% of its students eligible for free and reduced lunch, you are very unlikely to receive E-Rate funding for construction costs.  The likelihood may increase in the future, but you should not expect E-Rate funding for any imminent projects.

Avoiding E-Rate Application Pitfalls
September 15, 2005,  1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Learn the most common causes for reduction and denial of funding.  Learn the best schedule for all the steps necessary to apply for funding and receive reimbursement.  Hear tips on how complete the application forms in order to avoid problems and simplify the application process.  Learn the truth about the most common misconceptions surrounding the E-Rate program.

Recent Changes in the E-Rate Program
October 13, 2005,  1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

The session will describe the recent changes in the program, both written and unwritten.  We will briefly review the changes since 2004, then focus on changes being made for the 2006-2007 application cycle.  Among the changes covered:

What is Eligible for E-Rate Funding?
November 10, 2005,  1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Are you maximizing your E-Rate funding?  Learn more about which of your district's expenses are eligible for E-Rate funding.  The seminar will quickly review the E-Rate program and the application process, then focus on which services and equipment are covered by the E-Rate and which are not covered.  We will also discuss recent changes and changes that are expected for next year.
